Silverlake Conservatory of Music offers one-on-one lessons in all instruments and voice. Lessons are offered to students ages 5 and up. Lessons are held at the same time each week with the same instructor and scheduled by the month.

The curriculum employed at SCM includes instrumental technique, vocal technique and music reading. As a student’s proficiency increases, examples of various musical idioms are used and music theory is introduced.

Registration Fees & Policy

$120 per month for weekly half hour lessons

Ensembles

The Hollywood Highsteppers

The Hollywood Highsteppers is a marching ensemble created to explore the infectious grooves of 2nd-line brass bands often heard in New Orleans, LA.  The class is open to any student who plays a marching instrument (brass/woodwinds/percussion) and is open to any student on an acoustic instrument that can be marched with (banjo/melodica/accordion/guitar/violin).  No electronic or amplified instruments please.

Students must be enrolled in one-on-one lessons at SCM and will need to have a minimum of 2 years of study under their belt. Remedial instrument technique will not be covered in this class.

Live Wire

Come on and play with the band!

Live Wire is a group class focused on developing the necessary skills involved in playing in a group setting.  We work on ear training, song structure, dynamics, songwriting, group performance and leadership.  Points of emphasis are learning to be accountable, present, and punctual to maximize the efficiency of our rehearsals.

All instruments welcome.  Students are required to bring their instruments, cables and a tuner (if applicable). There will be 2 groups divided according to the ages of the student.

Students must be enrolled in one-on-one lessons at SCM. Minimum 3 years study of instrument; students must be able to play all major and minor chords and have basic knowledge of scales.

We’re looking forward to working with your kindergarteners and older preschoolers as they gain musical confidence, discover fun, freedom and expression through movement and percussion, and learn a little music theory (in age-appropriate ways) to deepen their enjoyment of music or prepare for private instruction.

Master Youth Chorale

This vocal ensemble for teens is the next level after Youth Chorale.  The students work on more advanced harmony and sophisticated music.  A diverse repertoire of music is selected and there are many opportunities for soloists to perform.

Our adult community choir is made up of women and men of varying musical backgrounds and experiences who share the common love of singing.  Song choices are diverse, including traditional choral pieces, gospel, vocal jazz, world music and popular music.

Songwriting Workshop

This Spring SCM is offering an 8 week Songwriting Workshop for students who are interested in exploring and fine-tuning their creativity in music!  This workshop will provide an encouraging space for students to write songs together as a class as well as in smaller groups.  The class will culminate in recording and documenting the songs written.

Open to instrumentalists and vocalists.

Remedial instrument technique will not be covered in class.

Students must be enrolled in one-on-one lessons at SCM.

Youth Chorale

Our Youth Chorale students learn to read music, match pitch, harmonize, blend, care for posture, respect fellow singers and sing!  We explore many styles and genres including material in different languages. Singing with heart and confidence is this group’s specialty – they work hard and have a blast!

Sight Singing & Music Literacy Workshop

Singers reading music, and instrumentalists singing what they read – two important parts of a musicians education that we encourage! Focusing on reading rhythms, reading written music, basic music theory, and ear training, this class will help strengthen your confidence and ability when it comes to sight singing! Beginning/intermediate levels.

Solo Vocal Workshop

Adult

This is a 6-week course dedicated to adults who want to learn the art of performance. All students bring 2 songs to workshop every week to sing for the group. Students will receive constructive critique and feedback in preparation for a performance at the end of the 6 weeks. Each singer will spend ample time on the microphone and work with a professional accompanist and voice teacher. This is an encouraging and generous group of people coming from various backgrounds and levels of experience who root for each other. It is a very supportive environment. (10 students)

Join us for a summer of fun with SCM’s Bring on the Music PLUS! Summer Camp in partnership with Barnsdall Arts!  Campers will spend the day immersed in music and art – playing instruments, singing, collaborating in songwriting groups, creating visual art, making new friends and nurturing their love for all things music!

Teen Camp

Strong instruction and mentoring from our professional musician staff will keep campers busy all day long.  They will challenge their technique, ear training, improvisation abilities and collaboration skills.  Campers will learn about the rehearsal process in ensemble settings, collaborate on songwriting, learn to structure and arrange material and have fun along the way!
